about

Composed in 2001, for eight independent simultaneous violins. Each violin plays 15 fragments of music, separated by silences, distributed across 15 minutes of music. The fragments range from arias to punctuations, from collections to accompaniments, all foregrounded indiscriminately. The distribution is irregular, producing at times clear moments of solo voices in isolation, and at other times rich soundmasses of multiple lines and shapes. Totalling two hours of music, folded back on top of itself in eight layers, like a forest of multiple forms, with sudden clearings and dense thickets.

This is the first studio recording of the piece made by Angharad Davies in 2014.

Written in 2001. First performed 29.08.01 by eight violinists of the OCMHN soloists, in Philharmonic Hall, Dum Kultury Vitkovice, at the Ostrava New Music Days. First performance by a multitracked soloist 20.04.02 by Darragh Morgan at St Pauls Hall Huddersfield UK. First performance of this recorded version 24.04.19 at Cafe Oto, London UK.
